About Roofing Company Tauranga
A local roofing team based at Mount Maunganui, working across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty. With you from the first measure through to the last clean-up.
Who We Are
Roofing is what we do, all day, every day. It is not a sideline to a building company and it is not something we picked up along the way. That matters more than it sounds, because almost everything that decides whether a roof lasts thirty years or fifteen is a detail you will never see from the ground - the fixings, the flashing laps, the way a valley is set out, what happens where the roof meets a wall.
You get one number to ring for the whole job, from the first measure through to the final walk around. If something is not right afterwards, you ring the same number.
We are based at Mount Maunganui and we work across Tauranga city, the Mount, Papamoa, Bethlehem, Otumoetai, Welcome Bay, Pyes Pa, Te Puna, Omokoroa, Katikati, Te Puke and Waihi Beach. Residential and commercial. New builds, re-roofs, repairs, spouting and roof painting.
How We Work
Some of this is ordinary and some of it is unusual, and we would rather set it out plainly than describe ourselves as passionate about roofing.
- We quote from the roof, not the driveway. A price per square metre given over the phone is worth nothing, because everything that determines what a roof costs is invisible from ground level: the state of the timber, the number of penetrations, whether the flashings can be reused, and how you get materials up there safely.
- The quote is written and itemised. Product, profile and colour named, with scaffolding, disposal and GST shown separately. That is what lets you put two quotes side by side and see what one of them has left out.
- We specify for your address. How far you are from breaking surf changes the substrate, the coating, the fixings and the flashing material. Salt is the reason roofs fail early in this part of the country and it is the first thing we ask about.
- Scaffold and edge protection, always. Including on single-storey work. It is how the job is done safely and it is also why the finished edges are neat.
- Watertight every night. On a re-roof we work across the roof in sections, and the house is closed in and made watertight before we leave at the end of each day.
- We tell you when you do not need us. If your roof has ten good years in it and needs two flashings and a wash, that is what we will say - even though a re-roof would be worth a great deal more.
Why Coastal Specification Is Our Thing
If there is one thing worth taking away from this website, it is this. Tauranga is a marine environment, and a roof specification that is perfectly adequate well inland will not give you the same life at Mount Maunganui, Papamoa or Waihi Beach. Salt attacks steel continuously, and a roof is only as good as its weakest component - there is no point putting a premium sheet on and then fixing it down with the wrong screws.
Areas that never get rained on are worse than the ones that do. Under an eave, under a carport, on a sheltered face - salt lands there and is never rinsed off. Those are the places roofs fail first, and they are also the places manufacturer warranties expect you to wash. Nobody tells homeowners that, so we do.
Things We Will Tell You That Others Might Not
- A cheap quote is usually a smaller scope. Reused flashings, fewer fixings, no scaffold, no allowance for timber repair. It is not that they are cheaper at the same job - they are quoting a different job.
- Painting will not fix a leak. If anyone tells you a coating will solve water coming in, get a second opinion.
- Roofing over the top of an existing roof is almost always a bad idea. You cannot see the timber, you add weight the framing was not designed for, and you trap moisture between the layers.
- A lot of "roof leaks" are gutters. Water backing up over the top edge of the spouting runs behind the fascia and into the ceiling, and presents exactly like a roof fault.
- Some ceiling stains are condensation. No amount of roof repair fixes a ventilation problem, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a repair that will not work.
- Sometimes the answer is to do nothing yet. Not every roof that looks tired needs replacing this year.
About Us: Common Questions
Who will I be dealing with during the job?
One number, for the whole job. You have a single point of contact from the first measure through to the final walk around, so you are never chasing several people to find out what is happening on your roof.
Do you do small jobs?
Yes. A single leaking flashing, one blocked downpipe, a couple of cracked tiles - all worth ringing about. Small jobs left alone are how expensive jobs start.
Are you insured?
Yes. If your job or your insurer needs to see the certificates, ask and we will send them through.
What guarantee do you give on your work?
Two separate things cover a new roof: the manufacturer's product warranty on the roofing material itself, which varies by product and by how exposed your site is, and our own guarantee on the workmanship. We will set both out in writing on your quote so you know exactly what is covered and for how long, rather than relying on a number somebody said on the phone.
What areas do you cover?
Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, Bethlehem, Otumoetai, Matua, Welcome Bay, Greerton, Pyes Pa, Tauriko, Te Puna, Omokoroa, Katikati, Te Puke and Waihi Beach. See areas we cover for the detail, and ring us anyway if you are just outside it.
